Range or Risk: Integrating Counter-Drone Systems into Live-Fire Training Frameworks

Summary

Counter-UAS systems are being fielded faster than the range management infrastructure required to train on them. Range safety regulations developed for conventional direct and indirect fire do not address the airspace deconfliction, RF spectrum management, and defeat mechanism employment parameters that C-UAS training requires. Units are training to standard on paper and not in practice. This brief proposes a tiered range integration framework that can be implemented within existing Army range management doctrine.
