The Readiness Trap: How CTC Rotations Consume the Readiness They Are Designed to Measure

Commentary

A brigade that completes a National Training Center rotation has demonstrated its warfighting capability under the most demanding conditions available in the continental United States. It has also degraded its equipment, exhausted its crews, and in many cases sent its best NCOs to become OCs and OPFOR trainers for the next rotation cycle. The readiness consumed in demonstrating readiness is not tracked against the same metrics as the readiness produced. This commentary examines that accounting gap and its implications for ABCT force generation.
